Barker College engaged Neeson Murcutt + Neille to design a new sports and learning precinct for their senior campus. Working with the architects, MAAT developed a wayfinding strategy and signage and graphic design for the building and car park.
Responding to the large-volume spaces through scale and colour, the signage is integrated with the built form where possible. The design uses multiple line work to respond to the movement & activity, both physical and neural, which occurs in the learning and sporting pursuits that take place in the building.
Large-scale purpose designed pictograms provide a sense of joy to functional destinations and are fabricated across a range of signs types in different materials.
“The signage and graphics created by MAAT for Barker’s Rosewood Centre were designed to be welcoming, legible and at the same time, joyful to the students and staff, as well as for visiting teams and families. We were delighted to work with MAAT to develop and incorporate these elements into the new building, using the strength of the Barker colours to create a bespoke and confident language for the Rosewood Centre. The result has far exceeded our highest hopes for utility, creativity and delight.
Many visitors to Rosewood have commented on the signage, notably the dichroic Rosewood sign on The Avenue and the playful metal sign on the façade. I can’t imagine a time when we didn’t have Rosewood as a place to play, to dance, to move, to learn and to be.”
