MAAT have worked with HOTA since 2017 to develop a precinct wide wayfinding & signage strategy for the Home of the Arts – creating & delivering signage for the gallery, outdoor stage, parkland & performing arts centre.
Branding by Boccalatte as the true home of the arts on the Gold Coast, the precinct development has been driven by an international design competition, won by ARM Architecture and Topotek1/Cusp, & supported by funding through the Gold Coast City Council.
Collaborating with digital agency, AX Interactive, MAAT developed a digital & static communication strategy for vehicular & pedestrian circulation in everyday & event mode, which was implemented and documented into a sign manual.
The precinct signage has been designed as an extension of the HOTA brand — groupings of totems populating the multi-entry site, welcoming visitors, providing meeting places, & responding to event modes with live messaging. Outdoor sculptures are identified within the 17-hectare parkland, with key artworks forming part of the digital overlay that augments the gallery experience.
“Working with MAAT has been characterised by a passion for creating great experiences for visitors, listening to the needs of their clients, & providing creative advice while balancing realistic solutions.”
