119 Redfern Street

City of Sydney acquired the heritage-listed former Redfern Post Office, to repurpose as a community centre.  Working with Aileen Sage and Djinjama, MAAT developed a messaging strategy to use dual language signage in Dharug and English.

The pattern language was developed as a graphic reference to the powerful owl totem. This detail patterning is implemented at a variety of scales - from infilling typography, to superscale for the Welcome wall at Reception.

The use of smoke-finished cork references the smoking ceremony to embed the culture of welcome throughout the site.
